The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games – Day 1 – Highlights

Hello everyone, following on from the blog post I uploaded after midnight this morning, I wanted to do 1 blog post for the next 15 days that will go in line as a look back for all of you to read so you can re-live the olympic memories and experiences.

To start, GBR’s Jamie Nicholls performed his jump during the men’s snowboard slopestyle final in Rosa Khutor, and 2,900 athletes from 87 countries competed today. There were some slip-ups during the slopestyle final as one of the athletes competing lost the landing at the wrong focal point and time, which is perfectly normal if the athlete has trouble with it, but the overall result was pretty good, as Sage Kotsenburg of Team USA celebrated his win of the first Winter Olympic Gold today.

So far, the official medal results from today’s events are:

Norway: 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze = 4 Medals

Canada: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze = 3 Medals

Netherlands: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze = 3 Medals

United States: 1 Gold, 1 Bronze = 2 Medals

Austria: 1 Silver

Sweden: 1 Silver

Czech Republic: 1 Bronze.

Overall, today’s results have been a bumpy, but good start, so there is hope that  tomorrow the UK and every other country participating will earn some medals, we all get our chance to shine, and that’s what everyone around the world aims to do, so fingers crossed more medals are earnt tomorrow.

Thank you for reading this blog post.
