Rio 2016: The Opening Ceremony

With firework displays, visuals and music bringing the crowd’s excitement to an all-time high, it’s safe to say that Brazil made sure to deliver on its promise by putting on the show of a lifetime for this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

As I followed the Opening Ceremony live via BBC iPlayer, the three words: “Reinvent, Rejoice, Replant” were mentioned, suggesting that Brazil like reinvention, that they always love to rejoice, but most of all, to replant and imagine the possibilities to a happy and energetic life.

Continuing on the success from the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, Brazil have made sure to make the 28th Summer Olympic Games something to remember.

At certain stages before and during the opening ceremony, large cushions could be seen being flipped over every few seconds, with a forest-like theme that intertwines the segments of the Summer 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Huge elastic band-like material was used and moved around to recreate certain works of art.

With 205 nations and 11,000+ athletes competing in this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, it’s safe to say that this year’s Rio Olympics will be the one to remember, as these Olympic Games follow on from the London 2012 Olympic Games that took place four years ago. Hard to believe it was four years ago since the Olympic Games in London. Time has flown so fast!

From now until the 21st August, I will be covering the Olympic Games events each day by doing each article after the day’s events have ended. This will allow me to cover each day’s events as they unfold, which will also include the latest medal listings for the events that take place between now and the 21st August.

If you are just as excited as I am about this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Rio, please let me know. I would love to hear who you’re hoping to see win this year’s Olympic Games, but most of all, I would love to know if the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games has helped to lift the Olympic spirit for you.

  1. Impressive opening ceremony, including history and culture head-on. I love watching the teams from each country walk the stadium, realizing how much talent and tenacity is out there. Looking forward to your reports?
